particularly for younger men who are questioning how to ‘be a man’ in the modern era.
A quick summary
In Man Up, Jack Urwin takes a look at the social expectations on men, past and present – the messages, ‘rules’ and norms that have shaped men’s sense of themselves across generations. Urwin also deals in depth and very thoughtfully with the consequences of those expectations. Man Up is very readable – jokey and sweary, relatable and pacy – but never trivial or trivialising. Probably most appealing to younger men (Urwin was 23 when he wrote the book) but potentially interesting to all.
